Fundraising

The Friends of Rondebosch Common have several fundraising initiatives to support our ongoing conservation and restoration projects. Examples include the wetland expansion project as well as propagating and planting species lost from the Common.

Our book,  Rondebosch Common, is  much-loved by all who have an interest in the Common. The book features a wealth of fascinating historical and natural history information, complete with beautiful artwork by Betty Dwight who spent many hours painting the flora of the Common. Copies of the book, as well as greeting cards featuring Betty Dwight’s artwork, are for sale (Contact us).

At every AGM, there is a raffle where fantastic prizes are up for grabs - such as Struik Nature field guides, books, wine and other goodies. In 2020, due to lockdown, the Friends did not hold an AGM, however the traditional raffle was moved online.

Tickets were sold for R20 and the 2020 raffle prizes included coveted Struik Nature books such as the Field Guide to the Renosterveld of the Overberg and the new edition of the Field Guide to Fynbos (John Manning, 2018).  Thanks to our members, R2 620 was raised from this online raffle.

In addition, the Friends of Rondebosch Common have applied for and received grants from the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, the Warham Searle Will Trust and the Rowland and Leta Hill Trust. We are very grateful for these critical grants which go a long way to making conservation a reality.

If you would like to make a donation to support our efforts, you can donate here. We are grateful for each and every donation.
